Participation of HMACSO students in the Common Module ”International Students’ Week” in Romania

From 01 May to 05 May 2023, the common module ‘’International Students’ Week’’, took place at the Nikolae Balsescu Land Forces Academy in Romania, under the authority of the European Security and Defence College (ESDC), in which the following students of the Academy participated:

Students from other military schools in the European Union and the USA participated in this educational activity. In particular, twenty-six students from 11 countries (Austria, Bulgaria, Georgia, Latvia, Latvia, Greece, Norway, Romania, Portugal, Spain, Portugal, Poland, the United States and Spain) took part.

 

The object of this training activity was to deepen and intensify cooperation between the academies of the member countries of the European Union.

 

Initially, on the first day (Monday) a guided tour was held at the Ethnographic Museum Astra, an open museum that was born from the desire of the Romanians from Transylvania to define their own ethnocultural identity in the ethnic conglomerate of the Austro-Hungarian Empire.

 

On the second day, a tour was conducted at the institution, including the robotics and Artificial Intelligence (AI) laboratories as well as the state-of-the-art libraries and simulators. This was followed by a presentation of its participant Academy. In the afternoon, there was a tour of the historical centre of the city.

 

Afterwards, on Wednesday, a visit was made to Corvin Castle, also known as Hunyadi Castle or Hunedoara Castle, a Gothic-Renaissance castle in Hunedoara, Romania, located 2 hours away from Sibiu, while in the afternoon of the same day, the programme included group sports and social activities in the Academy’s facilities. On the fourth day (Thursday), the morning programme included a demonstration of military exercises by third-year cadets of the Academy, using helicopters and armoured vehicles. The rest of the day was followed by the SECOSAFT and CADET INOVA conferences, which included lectures and presentations by the Academy’s students on the following topics:

 

  1. Technical Sciences
  2. British Culture & Civilization
  3. Law & Public Administration.
  4. Management & Economics
  5. military Sciences

 

Thursday’s program ended with a formal dinner for all participants of the Common Module.

 

Finally, on Friday, at the end of the program, the awarding of diplomas for successful participation in the activity and souvenirs took place, a commemorative photo was taken, followed by a visit to the historic town of Alba Julia, located on the Mures River, the capital of Alba County, Transylvania.
