The cadets of the Hellenic Military Academy of Combat Support Officers, accompanied by the Academy’s Commandant, Brigadier General Matthaios Savvidis, the Director of Studies, Colonel (Legal Corps) Matthaios Vasilakis, and other staff, participated in a scheduled educational visit from 02 to 04 Sep 2026 to the area of responsibility of the Supreme Military Command of Thrace. The visit provided their first introduction to the region of Thrace, where some of the cadets will serve in the future as officers of the Land Forces.
During this educational activity, the cadets visited the Headquarters of the Supreme Military Command of Thrace, the XII Mechanized Infantry Division and the XVI Mechanized Infantry Division. They were briefed by respective commands about their mission and activities, local conditions and the prevailing geostrategic environment.
The educational trip also included visits to operation units, staff observation and guard posts, where the cadets received information about their work and the role they will undertake after their graduation. They also attended demonstrations of weapon systems.
During their visit to the observation and border guard posts, the cadets were given guided tours to the facilities, briefed on their mission and gained an understanding of the important role carried out by the personnel serving at these posts, within the framework of the Armed Forces’ deterrent capability and their contribution to the defense and security of our homeland.
In addition, they visit the Holy Cathedral Church of Panagia Eleftherotria in Didymoteicho, where they were informed about the historical and religious aspects of the area. On their return, the cadets also visited the Executed Persons’ Memorial in Kerdylia, Serres, commemorating the massacre carried out by Germans on 17 October 1941. There, they paid tribute by laying a laurel wreath.
This trip of the Hellenic Military Academy of Combat Support Officers contributed significantly to strengthening the cadets’ morale and national pride, while also providing them with information about the high level of operational readiness of the Armed Forces and the future responsibilities they will undertake in this important region.
